Maithili Translation
English to Maithili Translation Projects
We assist organizations with documentation or marketing material (e.g. brochures, manuals, website content, PowerPoint presentations, product labeling, etc.) that are written in Maithili and require accurate translation into English.
Of course, in addition to English to Maithili and Maithili to English translation assignments, we can also assist you with the translation of the world's most popular languages to and from Maithili: Arabic ↔ Maithili; Spanish ↔ Maithili; French ↔ Maithili; German ↔ Maithili; Italian ↔ Maithili; Portuguese ↔ Maithili; Russian ↔ Maithili; Japanese ↔ Maithili; Chinese ↔ Maithili; Hindi ↔ Maithili; to name but the most popular... We can source translation expertise for virtually any language pair.
Maithili Language Style
Our translators, editors and proofreaders render well-written and clearly understandable texts. We place a high value on rendering a finished product that is faithful to the language style of the original text.
Maithili to English Translation Projects
We assist businesses in finding the best available Maithili to English language translation resources – including experienced Maithili language translators (native-speaking Maithili if appropriate or required).
In our experience, a Maithili language native-speaker may not necessarily be the right translator for the job. (See: Common myths and misconceptions about translation.) Though a native-speaker may be preferable for certain translation assignments, having Maithili as a native language may not 'translate into' Maithili language expertise (pun intended). An experienced linguist with strong Maithili and English language translation credentials, in-depth experience and professional credentials, regardless of native language, may often prove to be a better choice.
Identifying and securing the services of the appropriate Maithili language resources is what we do! (Refer to our Maithili translation assignment process for information on our Maithili translation project management process).
In a nutshell, we use professional translators who have a solid mastery of the Maithili language (grammar, spelling, cultural nuances) and a solid understanding of the subject matter.
Once we are confident that the appropriate freelance resources have been identified and certain that we can honour the project deadline, we submit a quote for the translation assignment.
If we cannot secure the appropriate resources, we will do our best to refer you to Maithili translation sources of information that we have confidence in.

The Maithili Language Landscape
Language: Maithili
Maithili is a language spoken in the eastern part of India, mainly in the Indian state of Bihar and in the eastern Terai region of Nepal. It is an offshoot of the Indo-Aryan languages which are part of the Indo-Iranian, a branch of the Indo-European languages. Linguists consider Maithili to be an Eastern Indic language, and thus a different language from Hindi, which is Central Indic in origin. In times, Maithili has been considered a "dialect" of both Hindi and Bengali but in 2003 it got the status of an independent language. An active movement was carried out to give the language an official status through its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, so that it may be used in education, government, and other official contexts. In 2004, Maithili was given an official status.
Maithili was traditionally written in the Maithili script (also known by the names Tirhuta and Mithilakshar) and Kaithi script. However, in the modern time Devanagari script is most commonly used. An effort is underway to preserve the Maithili script and to develop it for use in digital media by encoding the script in the Unicode standard, for which a proposal, has been submitted recently.
The term Maithili comes from Mithila, which was an independent state in ancient times. Maithili is a separate language, having a large Maithili-speaking community (4.5 crore, or 45 million, people) with a rich literature.
