To the 2006 Canadian census responses to the question concerning 'mother tongue' the most-commonly reported languages were: English (85.69%); French (3.69%); German (2.59%); Chinese (0.87%); Tagalog (0.48%); Dutch (0.47%); Spanish (0.43%); Vietnamese (0.35%); Hungarian (0.27%); Punjabi (0.27%); Gwich'in (0.25%); Tlingit (0.11%); and, Yakuts (Sakha) (o.11%).
According to the 2001 Canadian census,[5] the largest ethnic group in Yukon is English (27.1%), followed by First Nations (22.3%), Scottish (21.9%), Irish (19.1%), German (14.3%), and French (13.4%) – although over a quarter of all respondents also identified their ethnicity as 'Canadian'.
